The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Walkthrough & Guide: Rares
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Walkthrough: Rares header

Rares:

This section will be a bit interesting as I will note some of the more prestigious items in the game. These are either really hard to come by, one of a kind or just very unique for one reason or another.

The Master Sword
The Master Sword:

This is the legendary sword, the blade of evil's bane. It has appeared in just about every single Legend of Zelda title. You can acquire this blade after completing the puzzled lost woods segment at the great Hyrule forest area of the game in the Korok Village specifically. The blade holds 30 damage but it can be increased when it is near malice of the Calamity Ganon. The blade can not be destroyed like other weapons, but it will lose it's energy and have to recover it's power. Another cool perk of the blade is that it shoots the classic master sword beams when Link holds the throw button. This is the alternative instead of throwing and losing the weapon and it is rather awesome and quite powerful.The beams will only work if you are at full health.

 ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: LORE :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The Legendary sword that seals the darkness. Its blade gleams with a sacred luster that can oppose the Calamity. Only a hero chosen by the sword itself may wield it.

Bow of Light
Bow of Light:

This is a very powerful bow that can destroy the Darkbeast Ganon. It has 100 damage and is only usable and obtainable during the very final boss battle. It fires a form of light arrows and is quite beautiful too use and enjoy. People are trying to get the bow of light into the main game via glitching, I am not sure the rate of success at the moment. However, I do fear it may cause some problems with you're save file. Basically I wouldn't try too glitch the item out of the canon game, unless you or we all have more knowledge and information. For now enjoy an amazing bow and arrow pair. I really have an assumption this new bow may become a popular staple too the Legend of Zelda franchise, on the level of the Hylian shield and possibly even the Master Sword?

Hylian Shield
Hylian Shield:

You can find this rare and classic shield inside the Hyrule Castle dungeon. You must head too the lower eastern portion of the castle. Near that area will be the Lockup section of the castle. Use cryonis too lift the gate and gain access. Head down the long hallway and you should come to a Stalnox near the end of it. Defeat the Stalnox and you will be rewarded with this Hylian shield.

The Hylian shield is arguably the best shield in the game. It has 90 defense and practically or at least rarely breaks. If it does happen to break, you can get it repaired by Grante in Tarrey Town. Be sure to complete the full Tarrey Town quest or this option won't be available. Thanks to some gamefaqs.com users I can confirm the price for each repair is around 3,000 rupees.

This shield has much history and is a tad smaller than I remember it being or expected. However, it is still one of the most beautifully designed Legend of Zelda items and bars none in Legend of Zelda breath of the wild. I do wish we had our old classic mirror shield return in some way, shape or form. I guess we could always consider the Ancient Shield just as good right? Most fans will love having this powerful shield in the game and any other information on this shield, including parry tactics please let me know. I will gladly share it in the rares section here, thank you very much.

Thunder Helm
The Thunder Helm

The Thunder Helm is one of the least expected to acquire items in the game. I thought it would only be an NPC item for Riju the Gerudo Chief and wow was I angry about it. I was ever so pleased to find out that you can actually get this item for keeps. Nintendo seems to have learned that it is about looking cool and kicking butt in video games. This is core formula for a good video game. The Thunder Helm bars none in terms of looking cool, but it is also very effective against lightning. The Helmet makes the wearer completely lightning proof. It also states in the lore that it can deflect lightning.

I tested out the gear for a bit to save some people the trouble. Sadly, it can not be enhanced at all by any of the great fairy's in the game. Second bad note is that you can't dye it. I don't mind this much but the option is always nice to have for other players and even myself. The good stuff is that it is very lightning proof, when I say very I mean that it can block just about any lightning attack in the game. Apparently the bolts that Lynel shoots from his bow do not get deflected and you still take damage. I found that pretty strange, but maybe it counts as a sort of physical damage?

You can stay in the middle of a lightning storm with this helmet and take absolutely no damage at all. In fact standing in the lightning will be to your benefit as it destroys all other nearby foes when it strikes mainly leaving Link unharmed. Against Electric Lizalfos when they do their lightning AoE ( area of effect ) attack. You are also completely invulnerable and I could be wrong but I did see small bolts of electricity shooting back at the Electric Lizafos. I thought this might be the deflection as stated in the items lore in the game. This is probably wishful thinking.

To find this item you must complete all of the 4 Gerudo town sidequest. This includes Medicinal Molduga where Link must kill a Molduga for their guts. The search for Barta, Tools of the trade, and finally the mystery polluter. Also you must have completed the Vah Naboris dungeon for this quest to even become available. Please see the side-quest section at the top of this guide for much more information.

A precious heirloom passed down among the Gerudo. It deflects lightning strikes and is traditionally worn only by the Gerudo chief.

Demon Carver
Demon Carver:

I haven't seen much of this item anywhere on the web. Plus it seems the player must do a large amount of quest to acquire it. It is also rather powerful and I just overall like it. To acquire the Demon Carver go to the the ruined wagon south of Outpost Ruins in the West Necluda region. This is sometimes better known as Dueling Peaks Tower region. Once you are there, make sure you have defeated Master Kohga. Talk to the woman near the carriage and reply with "He has a dumb belly". She should then spawn with this 40 damage rare weapon. It could also be random but this is how I acquired it.

This lethal weapon is forged by the Yiga. Its unique shape facilitates the sound dispatching of any target and strikes fear into the hearts of all who see it.

Zora Armor SetLightscale TridentCeremonial SpearZora SwordZora SpearSilver LongswordSilverscale SpearSilver BowSilver Shield
Zora Armor:
The Zora Armor set is one of my personal favorites in the game thus far. I feel it is unique because it is pretty tough to obtain among many of it's various perks when in use. To acquire the Zora Armor you must first reach Zora's Domain and talk with King Dorephan and agree to help the Zora's. The King will then bestow upon Link this armor that was made by his daughter Mipha. The armor allows Link to swim up waterfalls which is very useful even when traversing the world in exploration.

The Zora Greaves can be obtained by completing the Lynel Safari sidequest. See our side quest section for further information. The player must take a picture of a red maned Lynel which are the basic Lynel enemies. Having a Lynel in your Hyrule Compendium will not work. You must have an actually picture stored. There is the Lynel near Zora's Domain that would be the easiest to get a picture from. Travel up the waterfall and make sure to head towards Ployomus Mountain and if you start seeing shock arrows you are in the right area. The greaves alone do nothing special other then increasing your swim speed another notch when equipped with more Zora Armor pieces.

Finally, the Zora Helmet which is the best part and one of the harder items to find without a video or a guide. The helmet resides at Toto Lake which is above several waterfalls directly north of the King's Throne in Zora's Domain. The player should go to the lake and use stasis or magnesis to locate the treasure chest. Lift it up with Magnesis from the water and then open it to reveal this awesome item! The Zora Helmet will increase your swim speed up to three times as normal when equipped with all other Zora Armor pieces. It also allows Link to do the classic Zora Spin attack while in the water, it looks cool and is uber awesome.

 :::::: FULL SET LORE :::::

Custom armor painstakingly crafted by each generation's Zora princess for her future husband. Wearing it will give you the ability to swim up waterfalls. ( Armor )
Zora headgear made from dragon scales. Increases swimming speed and allows you to use Spin Attack. ( Helmet )
These greaves have been passed down among the Zora for generations. It's been said they're crafted using dragon scales. Equip them to swim faster. ( Legs )

Once you have the entire set you can rank it up to level 2 and further. However, at level 2 star rank you will get several more bonuses. These include the spin attack from the helmet. The x3 swim speed up from the base set bonus. The ability to swim up waterfalls. Finally, swim stamina speed will go up once leveled too rank 2. It is a really awesome and fun to acquire set I suggest everyone look into it if your a Zora fan. Also this armor was in The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. In that game it looked a bit different and was very fun to use as well.

The Zora Armor is also unique because it is one of the only if not the only Armor set with a complete set of weapons that match with it. This includes a repairable weapon which is the Lightscale Trident as well as the weaker ceremonial spear variation. All of these items and weapons can be farmed and respawned right inside Zora's Domain! Let me walk you through the locations.

Lightscale Trident:
This one can be crafted by Dento. You will need 5x Flint, 1 diamond, and 1 Zora Spear. The Zora spear can be found in Zora's Domain as well. The weapon deals 22 damage and being a spear with it's increased range as well as amount of hits per second including during a flurry attack. This is a really good one!

 :::::::: LORE :::::::::

A spear of peerless grace cherished by the Zora Champion Mipha. Although Mipha specialized in healing abilities, her spearmanship was in a class all its own.

Ceremonial Spear:
You can find this on the bottom or near the lower waters of Zora's domain. On the map it is located under the western bridge from the King's throne. You will need cryonis to be able to pick it up with Magnesis. Once you've got the weapon with magnesis drop it in a safe area and pick it up. This weapon is identical in cosmetics to the Lightscale Trident, however it is inferior in durability and damage.

 :::::::::: LORE ::::::::::

A spear modeled after the Lightscale Trident wielded by the Zora Champion Mipha. They may be identical in appearance, but this spear's strength and durability are inferior.

Zora Sword:
This weapon is sitting next to the short green zora that we did not get along with at the start of the Vah Ruta quest line. It is also right next to the silver shield. These items respawn all the time and the Zora Sword matches the shield and set very nicely.

 :::::::::: LORE :::::::::::

The ornamentation that adorns this blade is a traditional Zora design. It's forged from a very durable and rust-proof metal.

Zora Spear: This can be found in the water right before the stairs to King Dorephan's throne room. It is on the left side sitting nicely in the water, just use your magnesis to get this respawning weapon. You can then use it again and again to make Lightscale Tridents when necessary.

 ::::: LORE ::::::

This spear is a Zora's weapon of choice. It's lighter than it looks due to being made from a special metal and is used by the Zora for both fishing and protecting their domain.

Silver Longsword:
Sitting right in the same area as the shrine smack in the middle of Zora's Domain. This is very easy to find but can be overlooked. Be sure to circle around the shrine to locate it sitting up against the wall. It has the most damage of all the Zora/Silver weapons and uses the base two-handed whirlwind attack as it's special.

 :::::::::: LORE :::::::::::

Although the Zora prefer spears to swords, they made this two-handed weapon using a special metal. It found popularity among Hylians for its unique design.

Silverscale Spear:
This one is also found in the waters on the lower western part of Zora's Domain. Use magnesis to locate it and add it to your collection.

 ::::::: LORE :::::::

The most skilled Zora fighters wield this spear. Its beautiful fish-tail design belies its impressive strength, the spearhead can pierce even the toughest scales.

Silver Bow:
This awesome looking bow with low damage is sitting on the east side of the lower part of Zora's Domain. Be sure to use magnesis and be directed towards the eastern bridge but under it in the watery area below the king's throne room.

 :::::: LORE :::::::

A Bow favored by the Zora for fishing. It doesn't boast the highest firepower, but the special metal its crafted from prioritizes durability.

Silver Shield:
My personal favorite, this one is located right next to the Zora Sword. There are 2 brown crates and the green Zora nearby, it is difficult to miss but just know it respawns as well with every Blood Moon.

 :::::: LORE :::::::

A Zora-made shield adorned with intricate ornamentation. It's said that true masters of this shield can redirect attacks as a rock redirects running water.

In conclusion, I would say that all the above information not only makes the Zora Armor Set and it's weapons powerful, but rare as well. It has tons of set bonuses. It adds a brand new move and button command with two items. It looks awesome and can be dyed. Most importantly there is also a whole set of weapons that match with it. As mentioned above this is the only set of armor that I have currently seen with a whole set of matching gear. That makes it rare enough to me in it's own right and don't forget that it's classic and just plain awesome!

Spring Loaded Hammer
Spring Loaded Hammer:

This very unique weapon can be purchased with Mon off of Kilton at his Fang and Bone monster shop. It cost around 199 Mon to acquire so get hunting! The weapon deals only 1 damage but on every 4th hit it will send any and all enemies hit flying across the game field. It is a one handed weapon and has a very unique look to it. I suggest the intent for this item is mainly novelty and just plain fun-factor. On the contrary I do think it could have it's serious usages. For one if your crowded by enemies and want to single out a real tough enemy or perhaps get that real tough enemy away from Link. The Spring Loaded Hammer would be the perfect option.

Another idea would be nice if this was used as a speed run tactic. It would take a while to actually acquire the item being you would need to Reach Kilton and complete his side-quest all the way over in Akkala Region. Once completed the player can equip this and bash through some of the biggest enemies in the game. I would say this item probably would not work well on bosses all though I have not personally tested it there yet.

The conclusion, is that I find this weapon to be rare as it is very unique in it's appearance for one. For number two it is the only weapon that does the huge knock back affect on the 4th strike. Finally it can be purchased with Mon at Kilton's monster shop. There is no other way to obtain this item. For the record Kilton's side-quest information is on the Akkala Region side-quest section of this walkthrough. If you want more information on acquiring this item check it out.

 ::::::: LORE ::::::::::

This strange hammer is one of Kilton's specialties. Being struck by it doesn't hurt much, but the fourth swing in a string of attacks will send the victim flying.
